You may not have Imelda Marcos' closet, but chances are that
you've got yourself a nice little wardrobe of shoes. Most
women report owning at least 10 pairs, including their
running shoes, shoes to go with specific outfits, sandals
and slippers. Based on an informal survey of friends,
relatives and total strangers who happen to be on my IM
list, here's a list of the top must-have shoes that should
be in your closet.

If you answered yes to the first two questions, chances are
that you answered no to the third. In a recent survey, most
women admitted to owning at least ten pairs of shoes, and
nearly all claimed that those weren't enough. What kinds of
shoes did they own? These are the most popular shoes that
you'll find in just about every woman's closet.

Shoes built for comfort are at the top of every woman's list
of shoes she can't live without. For most, that means
sneakers, whether they're top of the line Adidas or a pair
of Keds tennies, women love their sneakers.

Other comfort shoes include spectator pumps and low-heeled
flats that can be worn with slacks or shorts. Even more
important is a pair of fuzzy, warm slippers. Best slippers
to have? A pair of black kitties with emerald eyes and a
pink bow.

Other popular slipper choices include slip-on mules and
slipper socks with non-skid treads on the soles. Flip-flops
are yet another type of shoes that most women own at least
one pair of. Want to make a real fashion statement on the
beach? Pick up a pair of bright pink foam-soled flip-flops
with bright yellow flowers that nestle between your toes.

Comfort is important, but fashion reigns. The most important
fashion shoe in your wardrobe is the little black shoe. It
goes with everything from office wear to a casual evening
out on the town.

For a morning jog: You absolutely need a pair of well-
fitted, comfortable running shoes. Cross country trainers
are a popular choice, but the fit is the most important
thing in real working shoes.

Boots are another fashion footwear accessory that you
shouldn't be without. You can find fashion boots in a wide
variety of styles and colors to suit your mood and attitude.
High-heeled clingy patent leather just oozes sensuality.
Embossed pointy-toed cowboy boots manage to be confident and
feminine at the same time. Pick a mood and wear it.

Finally, you have to own at least one pair of totally
outrageous, drop dead sexy or funky shoes that go with
absolutely nothing - or everything that you own. One pair
shoes that you just had to have, that your closet just
wouldn't be your closet without.

Your closet may have other shoes - shoes you bought for a
particular outfit, shoes you bought on a whim, shoes that
called your name from the other end of the mall. You may
have six pairs of sneakers - one to match each t-shirt that
you own, or three pairs of comfy slippers for hanging around
the house, but if you don't have the eight pairs of shoes
listed above, your closet is not complete.
